SIGMA GAMMA RHO'S HISTORY

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was established on November 12, 1922, at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven pioneering educators: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin, and Cubena McClure. The Sorority attained national collegiate status on December 30, 1929, with the chartering of its Alpha Chapter at Butler University. As a distinguished national service organization, Sigma Gamma Rho has continually evolved to address the changing needs of society, remaining steadfast in its dedication to Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is dedicated to improving the quality of life for women and their families both within the United States and around the world. Through a steadfast commitment to community service, civic engagement, and social advocacy, the organization strives to foster meaningful progress in education, health awareness, and leadership development. Our members, affiliates, staff, and community partners collaborate to design and implement initiatives that reflect and advance our shared vision.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is a premier international service organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for women, children, and families around the world. Founded in 1922 by seven visionary educators, the Sorority has built a legacy rooted in sisterhood, scholarship, and service.
