SIGMA GAMMA RHO'S HISTORY

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was established on November 12, 1922, at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven pioneering educators: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin, and Cubena McClure. The Sorority attained national collegiate status on December 30, 1929, with the chartering of its Alpha Chapter at Butler University. As a distinguished national service organization, Sigma Gamma Rho has continually evolved to address the changing needs of society, remaining steadfast in its dedication to Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service.
