Epsilon Tau Sigma (ETS) was officially chartered on August 1, 1981, by five distinguished women: Sherlene Gentry, Shirley Hall, Mary J. McPhail, Rosalind K. McPhail, and Betty Morgan. As the first graduate chapter in Missouri City, Texas, ETS has been a pioneering force in the region. The chapter is committed to advancing its mission of empowering women throughout all stages of life by fostering education, providing mentorship, and engaging in purposeful community service.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was established on November 12, 1922, at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven pioneering educators: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin, and Cubena McClure. The Sorority attained national collegiate status on December 30, 1929, with the chartering of its Alpha Chapter at Butler University. As a distinguished national service organization, Sigma Gamma Rho has continually evolved to address the changing needs of society, remaining steadfast in its dedication to Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is dedicated to improving the quality of life for women and their families both within the United States and around the world. Through a steadfast commitment to community service, civic engagement, and social advocacy, the organization strives to foster meaningful progress in education, health awareness, and leadership development. Our members, affiliates, staff, and community partners collaborate to design and implement initiatives that reflect and advance our shared vision.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is organized into five distinct regions: Central, Northwestern, Southeastern, Southwestern, and Western. We are part of the Southwestern Region, which currently comprises nearly 100 alumnae and undergraduate chapters, providing meaningful service throughout its four-state jurisdiction—Arkansas, Belize, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The establishment of the Southwestern Region was authorized during the 14th Boule, held in New York City from December 27–30, 1939. In the months that followed, the region’s organizational structure was thoughtfully developed under the leadership of Soror Mary Scales Greenwood, Gamma Sigma Chapter, Houston, Texas. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting individuals in need and advancing the well-being of communities worldwide. The Sorority collaborates with esteemed national organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), the National Urban League, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), among others. Through its distinguished legacy of service, Sigma Gamma Rho continues to make a meaningful impact wherever its chapters are established, primarily through its hallmark initiative, Project Reassurance.
